Meeting new people and making new friends is among the top things students want to do during their time at Northumbria and here at NSU we are committed to being a place where students can do just that. Here’s what we did in 2023:

Habita and GREENHOUSE COFFEE

Rebranded and refurbished Habita with a fresh new look, including new signage, new furniture and a new TV for the terrace to screen sport outside.

Awards

Achieved Best Bar None Gold Award & 2nd place nationally within NUS.

Games Zone

New game zone including pool table and 2 pinball machines

Coffee

Introduced new coffee supplier, Cafeology including new coffee machine and removed Starbucks.

Slushies

New slushie machine installed with non-alcoholic options.

Screens

New TV’s added to game zone area and behind coffee machine to promote new coffee/slushie machine

COFFEE

Rebranded Greenhouse to Greenhouse Coffee and introduced a new coffee supplier, Pumphreys coffee who are based locally in Blaydon.

Advanced brand-new Rise Festival grossing nearly £30k on the bars.

Welcomed North East Calling Festival back, grossing nearly £26k on bars.

24 gigs delivered across year resulting in growing reputation as a quality gig venue in Newcastle

Freshers’ Week 2023

Generated £86,000 income

A 43% increase on last year’s revenue generated for our Freshers’ Fairs

Continued successful partnership with Voodoo to run Freshers events resulting in 68% increase in ticket sales kick back.

15 brand new commercial clients, 48 returning clients. 45% increase in revenue generated for our Freshers’ Fairs

Incredible attendance at commercial fairs with over 10,000 students through the doors over 2 days

Coach Lane fair returned with amazing student stalls and attendance.

TikTok followers increased by 650% and we had over 10k views of videos during Freshers’ Week

Developed a programme of low cast and free activities.

7,000 students attended Sport Northumbria at their Sports Fair which we supported
